Purchased msi gt72vr 7re back in March,

Ive had system reboots using 3dMark and playing BulletStorm game, sent the laptop to msi, they installed BIOS 86.04.5B.00.82 and limits 1070 clock to 1443mhz.

Msi told me they are working with nvidia to resolve this issue, but it seems is taking a lot of time and the 6RE version of this laptop, from August, suffers from this.

This needs to be in the official FAQ laptop page, for warning people that are interested in buying a msi laptop with 1070 gtx.

- Bios version installed by MSI, 86.04.5B.00.82, DEBUG vBIOS, clocks 1443/3606
- Dragon Gaming Center / Turbo mode does not work
- Loss of 5/10 fps on games and benchmarks
- Loss of 600mhz, before it could reach 1900mhz while playing games
- Affects other MSI models with 1070, GT73VR, GT62VR, GT72VR
- The GT72VR 6RE, laptop from August 2016, has this issue, so its been months and no official fix

Question for msi owners with 1070gtx laptop:

Is there any MSI Laptop with 1070 GTX card, that works 100% with the original vbios? and goes above 1650mhz on boost mode?

Is your 1070 gpu working good? whats your default gpu clocks and vbios?

Let me know,

Thank you.

P.S

For those with chinese vbios 1650mhz, your graphics card was designed to reach 1900mhz with default boost mode.

Dont accept that solution to fix your 2000€ laptop, we need to show that we are not happy with this situation.

"The render test of GPU-Z was executed with up to 1900 MHz in the case of the GT62VR"

https://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GT62VR-6RE-Dominator-Pro-Notebook-Review.171215.0.html

Nvidia "only" advertises a Turbo range of 1443-1645 MHz, but the chip can reach up to 1900 MHz (GPU-Z Render test)

You should NOT post irrational article on each of loop. Please understand if you keep doing this, those articles will be removed without any warning or notice. Thanks.

Ok, understood.

"Since not everyone has this problem "

So its true that not all pascal laptops from msi suffers from this issue right?

One thing that i dont know because theres no feedback,is, the people with this crash problem can overclock with 8A vbios ?
I think the problem is still present but doesnt manifest until certain clock limit, since 8A limits to 1650mhz, the problem doesnt manifest.
Maybe this 10% of 1070 gpu "defective" is unstable above lets say 1800mhz, so with 8A or 82 vbios you are not fixing the problem, but... avoiding the problem.

So, even if the 8A and 82 vbios "avoids" the crash, you still cant overclock or use shift mode, so you still have an inferior laptop in comparison to other users with no problems.

Maybe, the only way, to fix this issue at 100% is to change the gpu?

Am i right?

Recent update on the problem: 2016 builds are defective (K1608N, K1609N, etc), 2017 builds are working good (K1701N, K1702N, etc)

Very interesting. It's true?
And in the GPU-Z you can find out which revision?

Good day!

Yes, my id end  on 11B7

And  support  says me what my part number for my replace videocard: xxx-xxxxx-03S - its new revision. old revision - xxx-xxxxx-01S.

Stability oc 1925, memory +300.  For up OC, Should be increased Core Voltage - I do not want to do this.
I receive a message - the power limit is reached.  But there is no drawdown of frequencies on the charts.

I have the chinese VBIOS.

I do boost my GTX 1070 (MSI GT62VR 6RE), but only until 1897Mhz, lol. above 1900 Mhz, the game crashes.
Is that okay?

Hi guys

I have the same problem. They flashed 86.04.5b.00.82 and now my boost clock is 1443MHz too. :(

Same issue, and they flashed my VBIOS with 86.04.5B.00.82 which does limit my cards to 1443MHz, and causes the system as a whole to draw 60W less power. Firestrike is 15% slower - how the :censored: is this a fix? The base clockspeed for laptop 1070s is 1543MHz with boost clocks going much higher (as power/temps allow - just like all Pascal and Maxwell cards!), specifically for the GT73VR according to reviews!

Again, how the :censored: is this a fix?

Annnnnd turns out that they didn't really fix the issue of no video out. I put the laptop to sleep today for an hour, woke it up and got an all white screen (happened pre-repair as well)- waited a bit, hard rebooted, and got .... no video out.

Gee, I'm having a wonderful time NOT using my really expensive laptop. How about you, MSI?

I am having the same issue trying to play Skyrim clean install no mods.  So wondering if there is any fix other than sending it back since I just got in last friday (July 21, 2017). So far it is a great system otherwise as I can play all the games that my old system could not so far except for the above mentioned.

No, and they will never release a new vbios.

Contact MSI Support in your country and ask for new 1070 GTX revision 1.2 or refund.

"It was never All GP104's that had the issue, only MSI's 1070 on their custom PCB design, which most likely means it was MSI mistake

MSI RMAed and replaced the cards from people who complained. Then sold the borked GPUs to second hand dealers who sold them to people like me.

Who knows how many owners are stuck on the 8A no-turbo vbios as a "fix". The issue is moot though as the real fix, to stop the cards going above 1.013V, is no limiter at stock specs, if anything a light bump in performance due to undervolt, only at extreme OC well over 2000MHz / 150W."
