Thank you for the thorough testing and report on the observations. The link to CPU-Z was from the 1L0 BIOS though. Not the 1N3

This remains a dilemma for me. I read about the challenges of downgrading a BIOS. I may never update the board again unless I gain confidence to move forward now.

Thank you have a great weekend.

Best Regards
Mike

I've had 2 pc hangups with 1N3 bios on my X370 Carbon in 2 weeks. Running an early R7 1700@3.6Ghz with F4-3200C14-8GVR 16GB B-die at rated speed. Once in login screen and once doing random things. Second time it was very weird. It was like my pc responded every 10 seconds. Login hang was just frozen. Rolled back to 1L0 without problems.

Some new BIOS date for Ryzen 3000?
- Update AMD ComboPI1.0.0.3
- Support Ryzen 3000 series CPU.

I am using the 1.N3 Combo-AM4 1.0.0.1

Eventually is worrying as I already have my 3000 series cpu. Would be nice to use it.

Is most odd how lower spec'd boards have a bios and we don't.

There is nothing we can do about it.
Most boards are ready for roll out, they are doing further testing to confirm all is fine before they release it for the public. Unless you want a brick as a result...

Is most odd how lower spec'd boards have a bios and we don't.

Most of MSI's boards were based on the Tomahawk, or for the X370 series, they were based on the Gaming Pro Carbon.
The X370 titanium, being the highest end board, had more to it than the others. So it's not surprising to see it taking longer than the others.

Had a R7 1700 before and swapped in the new 3700X. At first it was boot looping like crazy but after cmos clear it finally booted at first try. Cpu fan still ramps to 100% every boot but it then settles down soon after. Now up and running with memory at 3200Mhz with 14-14-14-34 timings, no subtimings changed. Installed the new 1.7 chipset drivers and the amd balanced profile is back. CPU-Z bench scored 5617 MT/516 ST. Cinebench 15 scored 2133 MT/207 ST. Core change between 3000Mhz-4400Mhz. Voltage jumps agressively between 0.931-1.494v. Seems like tiny loads ramp up the temps by 10 celcius at desktop. Idle temp is 35c-45c and load temp in multi-threading test was 71c and 58c in single-threaded test with Arctic Freezer 33. Maybe I need a bigger cooler now.

Couldn't get memory to boot at rated speed with 7A32v1NU 1.0.0.4 bios. Rolled back to NT 1.0.0.3abba bios and memory is running fine now.

Awesome, thanks for the screenshot @startupsolidclique.   how do you find navigating the BIOS (has the cut down version, yes?)?

Your screenshot shows memory at 2667Mhz, is this a cosmetic fix in this new bios?  I have 3000Mhz RAM with XMP 2.0 and in my task manager it shows at 1467Mhz, but it is running at the 2933Mhz range.

For me, GSE Lite Bios is simple, clean and easy to use.

Yes, it's fixed the memory speed in the task manager.

Hello,

I'm following this thread for a long time now, but 1st time posting :)

I see that Beta Bios 7A32v1NV is out since Dec. 3rd.
Did someone tested it already ? I updated and stuck to 1NT (1.0.03abba) bios a few days ago when I installed my R7 3800x, due to numerous user reports here and on /r that it was the most stable one.
As far as I can see, it's super stable for me. Boost working, RAM @3200 OK (was already working fine with XMP and my R7 1800x though), temps, etc ...

This new one still comes with AGESA 1.0.0.4 (SMU v46.54),
Compared to 1NU, the only addition to the release notes is :
 - Improved OC memory compatibility.
So one may hope that it solves the POST/RAM issues that were reported with the previous 1NU.

I don't flash too much (was still on 1J previously), and never downgraded before, so I am worried that if something goes bad with the new BIOS, i'd be f*cked.
If someone is willing to test, please let us know :)
Cheers

Well... I took a leap of faith, and updated.
So far everything seems OK.

I'm tempted to try and tune memory settings now, which I didn't before with the Ryzen 7 1800x, because XMP@3200 MHz CL14 was the sweet spot.
With Ryzen 7 3800X, things are different now, and I understand that 3600 MHz CL16 or better CL14 would give the best results, so I'll try that.

Clocks observed with Ryzen Master  during CPU-z benchmark :
1NT :
  • Single Thread peak : 4445 MHz
  • Multi thread peak : 4223 MHz

1NV :
  • Single Thread peak : 4548 MHz
  • Multi thread peak : 4214 MHz

As for the results for anyone interested.

A feedback about RAM.

3600MHz CL16 with manual timings runs super fine.

I'm not a fan of the new BIOS UI so i'm still on old 1L BIOS :(
Does the new one have the XMP profiles? what about auto-OC "Game boost"?
I think I'll just stick with the old BIOS until ryzen 4000 is released and then do a complete system upgrade

Both are there. But I don't see the point in upgrading for a Zen1cpu

There isn't one. in fact, we don't recommend upgrading the BIOS if you have a Zen 1 CPU......since ya know....they aren't supported on the newest BIOS's.....

For some reason I assumed they were, oh well thanks for letting me know. Time to start planning my upgrade :)
When I was young I didn't have the money to build a new PC, now I don't have the time.. the irony.

I didn't realize these latest beta are not for the 1700X either; it would be good for MSI to label as such.  I had assumed that they where universal, since there's no explicing statement.  That means that MSI should fork the BIOS download page and have entries for ZEN 1 vs ZEN 3.  What about ZEN 2? is a 2700X supported?

Great idea, should they fork production lines as well and sell "zen 2 only" and "not for zen 2" boards?

I didn't realize these latest beta are not for the 1700X either; it would be good for MSI to label as such.  I had assumed that they where universal, since there's no explicing statement.  That means that MSI should fork the BIOS download page and have entries for ZEN 1 vs ZEN 3.  What about ZEN 2? is a 2700X supported?

I won't disagree with you regarding them mentioning that the newer BIOS's don't work with the older CPU's. They should.

In the end though, the new BIOS's won't do anything to help with older CPU's. AMD isn't developing the code for them anymore.....So going to the latest BIOS really won't buy you anything if you're on a Zen 1 anyway......

The only reason to update code for a 2(actually 5) gen old CPU is if there was a hack/backdoor (see Intel's issues....).

@darkhawk

True, unless there are some enhancements or bugfixes.  For importantly, we are all conditioned to run newer BIOS specially if there's some improvements in memory overclocking for example.  And the BIOS notes for the latest beta state:

- Improved OC memory compatibility.
- Improved system boot up time
- Improved PCI-E device compatibility.

For the mods, perhaps you could bring this up with MSI?

Again, they aren't actively doing anything with the older CPU's.
Improved memory compatibility won't have anything to do with older CPU's.......it deals with the new ones.

Again, even if it says that, it won't be referencing a CPU that's 2 (or 4) generations old.....it wouldn't (most likely) pertain to even the 2xxx series CPU's. It deals with the 3xxx and the changes they're making to make it more compatible.

And to be honest, I don't think AMD even makes it public what the AGESA code is, or what each update contains......
Honestly, that's one of my biggest gripes anymore with AMD and AGESA....it's so poorly handled. I'm surprised most of the OEM's even know what's going on, from what I hear.

Again, my comments are to ensure that MSI are not going to push this to non-applicable users.  So if as you state these updates are not for Gen 1, then is the MSI desktop app going to exclude suggesting this BIOS upgrade?  And as I mentioned MSI should specifically tell users not to use this BIOS upgrade on older deployments. As it stands now, there's nothing indicating to a user if they should or shound't runt he BETA (and later released) BIOS on their rigs if they have a Gen 1 Ryzen CPU.

I don't disagree. However complaining here accomplishes nothing. I can report it, but it won't matter.

Unless they get customer complaints, they really won't do much/anything. So contact them directly about it. See : >>How to contact MSI.<<
I say this because I agree with your sentiment there. There should be a note. But even me reporting it won't make any difference. But real users? Yeah, that will.

Hi I have just upgraded to a 3700x after flashing to 7A32v1NV while I know it is a Beta I am having some weird behaviour.

If I change my pump speed in the bios when I boot back into windows I am stuck at 0.9v 546mhz and the only way out of it seems to be go back to the bios and load defaults.
If I check my fan curves using Command centre it sometimes changes the CPU to 0.9v completely stuck til I clear the bios again.
I think even ryzen master has got my 3700x stuck at least once.

Anyone else having this problem????

AMD Ryzen 3700x
X370 Carbon Pro BIOS 1.NV
Geforce 1080

250gb WD black NVME

For some reason I assumed they were, oh well thanks for letting me know. Time to start planning my upgrade :)
When I was young I didn't have the money to build a new PC, now I don't have the time.. the irony.

In Italy we say:
- When you are young you have energy and time to make lots of things... but you don't have the money
- When you are working you have energy and money to make lots of things... but you don't have the time
- When you are retired you have money and time to make lots of things... but you don't have the energy...
