Can't Boot (Critical Process Died)
« on: 14-August-17, 11:21:55 »

getting the above error after 3 fresh windows 10 installs, at various stages after the install. all seemed well for hours.

i had no viruses. i tried to reboot in all the offered manners (e.g. safe boot, debug, etc) but could never re-boot.

any idea why this is happened at various times? 1 thing - i don't have the driver cd, so i downloaded ones from the support page, but may not have had them all installed, if that is relevant.

 thanks.

 (i have Intel i7 6700K, MSI Z170A Gaming M3 motherboard, W10 Pro)

As with all bsod error it may be caused by various hardware or software issues.

If you can get the system to boot into Windows then attach any DMP files from c:\windows\minidump. You may also be able to obtain the files via the command prompt in recovery mode with a Windows installation disk.

I would try performing a memory test (RAM) and you might need to replace your RAM.

I get the error at the top of the topic. It is not a BSOD. Just a screen-wide error message.
I can't boot in safe mode to get access to any data.
This has happened at various points after a clean install on the SSD. I did not add much software, just Windows Live Mail, Deskbot with text to speech, Mcafee.
I did reset the BIOS. Any chance it's from needing to update it? Is it easy to update the BIOS during start-up? Will try that, then try to update install on a different SSD, then add software 1 at a time. Then I guess do the lengthy RAM test.
Sound reasonable?

Post a picture. Googling the error reported it as a blue screen STOP error. A full screen error (usually blue background and white text) is a BSOD. Windows 8/10 shows a :( face too.

Personally, I would start with the ram diagnostics test.

It is a STOP error. Can't take a picture, since no access.

No camera.

Looks like it was a bad SSD.

Thanks.
