:confused2: as far as i am aware, Vista doesn't get a final release til sometime in 2006

MSDN subscribers don't even get to see a Beta version til next month (August 2005), so i doubt if you have a "proper" BETA release of Vista yet

i doubt if Promise have even started making drivers to support Vista yet, even so, this is probably the wrong place to be asking, because Promise's own drivers won't work with onboard controllers

so you may be waiting a LONG time, i feel

have you tried the xp one and it failed then ?

because Promise's own drivers won't work with onboard controllers

he could get around that by using any of the full raid bios if he could find a driver

I tried those drivers to install Vista 5365 and I got the error "No device drivers were found.". What is the specific process to making a driver floppy disk for windows vista?

download and extract the IDE RAID drivers from the nforce Vista drivers:

To recap, I have an MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR, bios v7.8, and Western Digital Raptor 36GB. I want to install Vista build 5365 from scratch, I have XP Pro installed right now and working correctly.

I made a drivers floppy for the sata raid drivers from two different driver locations. (By driver location I mean driver CD, MSI's website, nVidia.com, etc) I tried booting XP or Vista from each disc and tried installing drivers from each floppy disk to see which scenario caused windows to find my sata hard drive.

Here is what I found. When I used my MSI motherboard CD as my driver location, sata raid drivers were detected AND WORKED in finding my sata drivers for Windows XP but NOT for Windows Vista. When I used the nVidia nForce 5.10 chipset drivers as my driver location, sata raid drivers were detected and installed but DID NOT DETECT my sata drive, for BOTH Windows XP and Windows Vista.

So I still CANNOT DETECT my sata drive with Vista, even if I use the nForce drivers from nVidia. For clarity, in Vista, when loading the drivers from floppy, I tried these 3 drivers:
 -NVIDIA NForce2 ATA Controller (v2.6) (A:\nvatabus.inf)
-NVIDIA NForce(tm) ATA RAID Class Controller (A:\nvraid.inf)
-NVIDIA NForce(tm) ATA Class Device (A:\nvraid.inf)

K7N2 Delta-ILSR uses Promise RAID controller, so its no wonder the Nvidia SATA drivers won't work

You are right, I didn't realize that. That doesn't explain why Vista doesn't recognize the drivers (floppy disk) that I use when I install XP.

Neither of these two driver disks get detected by Vista:

FastTrak 376/378 Driver Diskette V2.00.1030.29
FastTrak 376 Driver Diskette 1.00.0.19

you need drivers written for Vista

i think on earlier Beta versions, you could get away with using XP drivers, but you can't now

as that Promise controller is quite old now, i'm surprised that the drivers are not included in Vista anyway

Drat. That may be the case here. I was hoping I could install Vista as an upgrade. When I do that it detects the sata drive since it begins installing whilst I'm in XP. Partly into the upgrade though it gives me the warning that it is missing raid drivers. I appreciate the input Stu.
