Can't enter BIOS with MSI B350M Gaming Pro Mobo
« on: 17-February-18, 11:23:52 »

So it all started about a week ago, when I plugged my computer to my monitor. I noticed that every time I would power on the computer, it would not show the MSI splash screen that says to press DELETE to enter the BIOS. After hours of searching, and multiple attempts to solve this issue, I was still not able to enter the BIOS. I turned my monitor's G-SYNC off, and I turned my monitor back down to 60hz. This did not solve the problem. I tried to hold down the power button to hope that the computer would boot into the BIOS, which did not work. I tried to reset the CMOS, which did not work, as the computer still would not show the MSI splash screen. We held down the delete button as the computer was starting up in hopes that the BIOS would show up, which it did not. I tried to turn off the fast boot, but I could not find the fast boot option to turn off. I updated my computer to all of the latest drivers, but despite all of this, I still have not found a way to boot into the BIOS. Any thoughts to this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Do you know your cirrent bios version?
To correct your problem, unplug all your drives with OS partitions: normally, computer would request a boot drive so it should enter in bios setup. Tell us if it works.
Good luck,
:-)

While in Windows you can press shift key right when you select restart with your mouse then select "Change UEFI firmware settings" after reboot you will go to bios directly.

I tried everything that you guys are saying, but the computer just won't boot into the BIOS.

Do you know your current bios version?
:confused2:

Please do that:
- remove the GPU
- remove the cell battery and the power cord during >30mn then plug it again
- power On, then wait 30s
- plug the GPU
- power On keeping <Del> pressed during 30s, then (even if the screen is black,/blanck) press <F6>, then press <F10>, then press <Enter>, then wait >5s
- Power Off then On
Have you bios splash screen display now?
Hoping this will help,
:hat tip:

After hours of trial and error, I have finally found the solution.
Doing shift while rebooting Windows did not give me the option to reboot to UEFI because my SSD was MBR. So I tried to run mbr2gpt.exe to convert my drive to UEFI however this failed with an error “Disk layout validation failed”. Turns out that my Windows OS was installed on my second disk (SSD), while my first disk (2 TB HDD) was the one that was bootable. So I unplugged the 2 TB disk and kept my Windows SSD only. At that point I could not boot anymore (because that disk wasn’t bootable) but I could at least get to the BIOS….    Then I ran Windows recovery and fixed the boot partition using the command bootrec /fixmbr however the command bootrec /fixboot gave me and “Access denied” error. But by running bcdboot C:\Windows /l en-us /f ALL fixed my MBR and I was now able to boot with my SSD!

Then I successfully ran the command mbr2gpt and got to boot UEFI. Voila! The MSI splash screen appeared and I was able to access the BIOS. I plugged my second disk and the PC still booted fine (with MSI splash screen and access to the BIOS!).

Oh and BTW, I had to use the DVI output during all that MBR / UEFI troubleshooting. I could never get to “SEE” the BIOS on HDMI or Display port.

I hope this helps!

So we were not so far away with this previous try:

Thanks!

But just so you know I did try to unplug all the drives to get to the BIOS... but that didn't work until I used a DVI output. Then I was able to access the BIOS.

Basically, the root cause was a messed-up Windows install.
