MSI Laptop SSD upgrade drive not detected - CX61 20D
« on: 15-September-18, 08:29:54 »

Hi I have an MSI CX61 20D that I am trying to upgrade the HDD to a SSD but the drive is not detected in BIOS.  After physically installing the new western digita 250gbl SSD into the laptop when the laptop boots in loads the BIOS then when I check SATA information it only shows the optical drive in the first position the second position shows no drive detected.  I have taken the drive out and put in twice and still not detected then I took out the SSD put it into a usb enclosure and tried the drive on my other laptop and windows detected it in disk management so I think it works it did say it needed to be initialized but I ignored that as I want to do a clean install of windows on the MSI CX61 laptop.

Is there a setting to enable to get SSDs working I do not no much about SSD's?

I seen in the BIOS a setting for AHCI or IDE does this matter?

Thanks for replying.
