This is my first PC build and I followed a guide on YouTube for building my pc. The build was going smoothly, and when I turned it on, all the fans and lights were on.

However, after trying to connect it to my monitor, I found that in the ez debug, the CPU led was lit up. I tried reseating the CPU and checked for any damaged pins, but I couldn't find any. I think it's the power cable I connected for the CPU that is incorrect, but I'm not sure.

The power cable I connected has 8 pin on one end and the shapes match the CPU PWR on the motherboard, but on the other end, there are two 4 pins, but only one of them match the PSU shapes.

Do I have the right CPU power cable? Or is something wrong with my CPU?

I have Z370 Carbon Gaming Pro and an i5-8400.

Here is my build ( There was no light so I had to use my phone's flashlight) :

In the picture linked above, I didn't have anything plugged in to the CPU PWR because I don't know if I have the right cable or not.

Here is the EZ DEBUG:

Here are the cables that I'm confused about because their shapes don't match the PSU, only the CPU PWR for the 8 pin:

Here is the CPU PWR shapes:

My PSU is the ROSEWILL Gaming 80 Plus Bronze 550W Power Supply, the cables were all provided by the PSU.

Hi

That's why it won't boot up: CPU does not get any power.
Here's your PSU's manual:
https://www.rosewill.com/media/downloadable/user_manuals/UserManual_HIVE_Series.pdf

You have to connect EPS cable. Your model comes as 4+4 connector.
PCIe connectors are different, as they are usually 6+2, or just 6. So no confusion here.

Buy the cable ?:confused2:
As far as I understand the manual, it's one of non-modular cables.

Wait.. I think that's the one that the shapes didn't match with.
My cable has 4+4 on one end, and 8 pin on the other. Is this the correct one or am I missing one?
The only other cable that I can see fitting is one labeled PCI-E, which is 6+2 on one end and 8 pin on another. :/

Here's the 4+4 cable:

Here's the CPU PWR:

Here's the PSU:

Unless I'm blind, Im pretty sure the 4+4 pin doesnt match any of the shapes, so I don't know if this is the right cable.

Btw the memory is on the wrong slots, you should use 1-3 or 2-4.

Plugging it in, the Ez Debug still has the CPU led lit up. Does this mean my CPU is defected? :(

Also, I put the memory in the right slots :D

what CPU cooler are you using?

also have you checked the CPU socket for any bent pins?

Here is my PC build:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Xwc2QV

Here is the CPU ( Thermal paste will be added once it is detected) :

I think a little rectangle piece fell off at the back of the CPU when looking at other CPU photos, but I'm not sure.

Here is the CPU socket:
https://imgur.com/gallery/XWrFtir

I matched up the arrow on the CPU to the mark on the socket too.

Seems like couple of bent pins to me.

What do you mean you will add thermal paste once CPU is detected...

Wait so do I have to send back the CPU?
I would add thermal paste when  CPU isn't lit on the ez debug, because sometimes I accidentally touch it

Bent pins occur on CPU socket itself (motherboard).

To me it sounds you might have burnt the CPU as well. Before any testing, thermal paste with cooler should be mounted.

running a CPU without thermal Paste and a cooler is asking to kill the CPU!

never do that its a really bad idea!

Oh.. I’ll see if I can fix the pins.
I’ll be sure to put the thermal paste and cooler too now! D;
I guess I’ll return the cpu and get a new one
