Hello,

I have an older MSI motherboard (the P67A-C43 (B3) motherboard). I got a new videocard (the MSI Radeon RX580). However, when installed, the screen remains black - it does not show even the BIOS screen. All power connectors are installed correctly and the fans on the video card spin, so it has power.

Using google, I found the following thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=271666.0

It describes a very similar problem, and a possible solution was updating the BIOS. My motherboard currently has version 1.12 (also known as 1.C). I thought I should update to the new v5.4 bios (ME8).

I downloaded the MSIHQ tool from here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108079.msg800577#msg800577

And I used it to put the v5.4 bios onto a blank fat32 USB flash drive. I rebooted to the USB flash drive, and ran memtest86+ many times. Tests 5 and 7 came back perfect.

Next, I went to the "Proceed with update" option (option 2 on the USB drive). However, I had the shift+F8 option selected. So it gives me a lot of questions that I don't know how to answer. See attached screenshot. I don't want to brick my device, so I stopped here. Can I still safely restart the computer and try again without the shift+F8 selected? Or can anyone tell me what these questions mean and how to answer them?

You did surely not follow the instricutions in the linked thread exactly. You must download the exact bios archive attached to that post of mine and point the forum tool to the archive without decompressing it before. It won't help to use any other bios archive or file.

Thank you, Flobelix. I had downloaded bios 5.4 from the MSI website, instead of bios 5.4 from the attachment to that thread.

I installed the 5.4 bios from that thread, success. I upgraded my video card, and I am now running windows 10 with the RX 580. Thank you for the help!
