Trident 3 i5 7400 upgrading? definitive answer.
« on: 25-October-18, 14:28:46 »

Wondering if the tri 3 is a waste of time, after buying it.
"future proof" meaning have to throw it away later mainly as its such a pain to upgrade, out of my 4 high spec pc's this takes the cake. I brought it as very mobile package.

Ram:  I want to upgrade to 16gb but having a real hard time finding a matching stick for the stock one and given up now. The only other option as I do not want unmatched ram is to take out the Kingston in there and replace it with a single 16gb vengeance ram unless any other ideas.

Cpu, I am not sure as specs seem to change where ever I look but a i5 7400 think 7th gen 1151 socket. Looking at the i7 8700 upgrade maybe 8700k will the 8th gen work in what is believed to be 7th gen mainboard?

gfx card- the biggest pain in the world and reason for frustration. Any upgrade from the 1050ti  will take more power it is inevitable but the system is 230W and from what I read here there and everywhere the mainboard is locked at 230. Would like to put in at least a 1060 but ideally 1070. Buy how do you upgrade a card that is so restrictive in power? I looked at the trident 3 8400 version that has the 1060 in, same board same everything - looked for the exact card but where ever I look still outranks the 230W limitation.

Don't get me wrong this tiny system does do well, playing tomb raider on ultimate like a champ but if its so hard to upgrade it can not be future proof. Any help?

with the 230w power supply you can do the 1060 in either the 3gb or 6gb these cards come with the i5 8th gen version of the trident and still only have the 230w power supply
