MSI Xpower Gaming AC, 128gb ram?
« on: 05-December-18, 20:15:19 »

Hello.
I have m/b MSI Xpower Gaming AC, cpu 7940X, MSI Gaming X 1080 Ti, 8 stick of ram - 4xBLS16G4D26BFSB(Gray) and 4xBLS16G4D26BFSE(Red), each module=16gb, the only difference is color.
M/b correctly detect all modules, but shows only 98gb.
The video card is installed in PCI_E3 slot.

Bios updated to version 1.8.

Or processor limits memory?, the specifications indicate that it supports up to 128.
Any advice?.
I think modules in the C1,C2 slots detects correctly, but their memory in this slots not available for use.
Сhecked modules one by one, all working.
This may be due to an bugs in the BIOS?.

No, max memory size for it is 128MB, see >>ARK i9-7940X<<.

1/ If you plug only 1 RAM stick of Grey kit in DIMMC1, do you see the 16Gb?
2/ If yes, adding another stick of Grey kit in DIMMA1, do you see the 2x16Gb?
3/ If yes, adding another stick of Grey kit in DIMMB1, do you see the 3x16Gb?
4/ If yes, adding another stick of Grey kit in DIMMD1, do you see the 4x16Gb?
5/ Retry #1 to #4 with the Red kit. Results?
6/ If ok, add 1 RAM stick of Grey kit in DIMMC2, do you see the 5x16Gb?
7/ Do the next with DIMMA2, then DIMMB2, then DIMMD2 and verify at each step. Results?
Hoping it shall help,

:hat tip:
If i plug 1 any stick (Grey or Red, no difference) in C1 (as refers manual) - system won`t start, if i plug stick in A1, D1 and etc - boot successful.
Resetting cpu in his socket does not help.

Hello,

It sounds like a hard problem in CPU-Socket or CPU itself.
1/ Plug only 1 RAM stick in DIMMC1, then do a clear CMOS:
- Power off PSU, unplug the power cord and wait that all mobo's leds light off.
- Keep the "Clear CMOS" button on the back panel pressed during at least 20s.
- Plug the power cord and power on.
- If you have display, you would see a question asking to enter in bios setup or load bios default values,
. if you have, enter in bios setup,
      press <F6>, confirm,
set "SETTINGS \ Boot \ Boot Mode Select" = "UEFI" (change nothing else for the moment),
press <F10>, confirm, PC should reboot.
. if not, retry one time from the beginning waiting longer.
Result?
2/ If problem remains, try to reload last bios version doing exactly that:
- Plug only 1 RAM stick in DIMMA1, then verify that pc boot and is stable.
- Download >>Bios V1.80<<.
- Take an USB pen having no more than 16GB (physical size) with only one partition.
It must be FAT32 (I recommend to verify the pen with CHKDSK).
- Unzip it and copy the file "E7A91IMS.180" on the root of the USB pen.
- Boot and enter in Bios Setup. Press <F6>, confirm, press <F10> and confirm. Pc should restart.
- Enter again in Bios Setup.
- Plug the USB pen into one 2.0 port of the back panel (those below PS/2).
- Click on the M-Flash button then select the file on the USB pen.
- M-Flash should start.
It should ask what bios to update (there is 2 in this mobo), press <ENTER> because you want to update this currently used.
Be cautious to not abort M-Flash before the end (can last up to 5mn).
- Power off pc and PSU then wait 5s after all mobo's LEDs light off.
- Power on, enter in bios setup and set "SETTINGS \ Boot \ Boot Mode Select" = "UEFI".
Plug only 1 RAM stick in DIMMC1, then do again a clear CMOS. Result?
3/ If problem remains, try to switch to the 2nd bios:
- Power off PSU, unplug the power cord and wait that all mobo's leds light off.
- Push on the Multi-Bios switch:

(be cautious: the switch is fragile therefore push gently)
- Plug the power cord and power on.
Result?
4/ If nothing resolve, switch back to the other bios. Unplug the CPU and verify with a magnifying glass there is not bent pins. A HD photo should permit experts on this forum to help you.
5/ If there is no bent pin, the CPU's ICB is defectuous and you have to RMA CPU.
Good luck,

Hello,
Thanks for the photos. I do not see bent pin in the CPU-socket or area with abnormal color on the CPU. All seems Ok. Blow on the CPU-socket before to replace the CPU and do not tighten the CPU-Cooler on it too strongly. Blow also on the DMMC1 and 2 slots.
Let me known about other tips I suggested.
Good luck,

Nope, nothing has changed..
Also when i plug stick in C1 slot, postcodes are endlessly shown in loop 00 - 06 - 60 - E8 - 55.
According to the manual, errors are E8 and 55, E8 - S3 Resume failed (i have no problem with power supply (Antec High Current Pro HCP-1200w)) and 55 - memory not installed.
Determined in which slots memory is not counted in the total amount - C1 and C2.
Who is faulty?, what you think ?, motherboard or processor?, or mybe both?.

Hello,
I believe it is the CPU (its ICB)!
Have you (or can you borrow) another to try? Else, RMA it?
Sorry for this bad news,
:undecided:

It's easier for me (and faster) to give it to the store where I bought it, under warranty (3 years).
