(bios request?) RTX 2080 sea hawk EK X problems
« on: 11-January-19, 13:07:32 »

hello guys . i just purchased an RTX 2080 SEA HAWK EK X  and i have a few problems that i fixed but i dunno if its faulty gpu or driver vbios fault.

the board sn :602-V372-44SB1811000739 (samsung memory)

the problems are that almost no game runs with fresh install of win 10 and drivers from nvidia, only 3d mark and low tier games  like Crossout.

i just did a stupid change after  a long  thinking about it ,in nvidia panel i just selected max performance under the control energy mode setting and thats it now i can run ALL games like a boss like SOTTR, deux ex mankind divided , assasin creed odyssey also the low tier ones and still 3dmark.

question is ,could it be a voltage/P state clocks  problem when switching from idle to high performance clocks?
could it be fixed by an specific driver or gpu bios upgrade?
should i return it and leave my old gtx 980ti ?  (this would be my third faulty rtx after a gygabyte oc 2080 and zotac AMP rtx 2080)

sorry for my poor english and thank you

There is no vbios issue. You have the latest (NV372MH.173) already.

Try the card in a different pc or a fresh Windows install.

i just installed a fresh win 10 and the problem is the same

my computer specs are

i7 6700k@4.7 ghz (delided with kryonaut and relided again) 2 years stable with intel burning test 10 pass 8gb test
4x4 ddr4 2133mhz G skill
asus maximus hero VIII z170 mobo
crucial 1tb ssd
seasonic 650w platinum single 8pin 2 cables to each psu pciE port
 windows version : 1809 (17763.253)

with my old gtx 980ti i had 0 problems with any driver or game in win7-win10 :/

i cant test the gpu in other pc (is the waterblock one)

the only thing im sure if that the problem i have only shows when the driver is fresnly installed and the power  mode is the default one from nvidia.

the computer never had any bsod freeze or sudden reboot ,i mean is stable since day 1. if there is any other test i could do,or should i rma/refund ? this wouldbe my third rtx faulty as i stated before .....

Try without oc. CPUs don't get better over time especially if overclocked. Also try with a different psu

well seems like i fixed it somehow?
first thing first, ive outlived overclocked cpus before electromigration happened and i mean outlived by 6 years. so cpu isnt the problem.

the problem was gpu voltage as i stated in my first post.
i just restored nvidia settings to default AGAIN but this time games run without crash ,but in gpu z i spotted the difference

with normal windows install+fresh nvidia drivers vgpu was 1.04xxx volt under load , now after the software fix( i suppose its the correct explanation?) the vgpu is 1.05xxxxx volts.

still as my first post say its seems to be vbios-voltage-P_states problem.

btw my old gtx 980ti was at 325w peak and 0 problems, the rtx maxed at 288w.

i mean if you try 3 rtx after all the complains you cannot tell me to try psu cpu overclocks stability etc... and i repeat is my third rtx from different brands/models XD

no disrespect intended but ive build computerd since pentium 66 ceramic. its been a while :)

sorry if my manners seems harsh , im spanish and i still font grasp what emotions do i show in english language
