I have a surround sound headset that needs optical input.
Just got a new pc with an H310M PRO-VD mobo. Been trying to figure out how to convert the sound output to optical.

I bought a SPDIF bracket:
But during installation I realized this mobo does not have the spdif out pins...

So I somehow need to convert the output from the existing audio out ports to optical. Any ideas on how I could do this?
Does the HDMI out also carry the 7.1/5.1 sound, or only the video? In the manual it is not covered. If it has the 7.1/5.1 sound I can buy a HDMI to optical converter so that would be great.

Or is it possible to do this with a USB to Optical converter? I tried got one, and it succeeded in converting the USB to 5.1 analog output.  But it was not able to create 5.1 optical output. Could be the device I bought...

Or does anyone know of any other usable converters or ways of achieving this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks HenryW, it dawned on me too that a soundcard would fix this. I was just hoping for a simpler and cheaper option. But I have soon wasted the same amount of money a soundcard costs on non-working solutions so might as well just get one.
