Hi guys,

I have built a workstation with "MSI X399 GAMING PRO CARBON AC" motherboard. There was a wireless&bluetooth adaptor coming with the motherboard. So, I was using wireless network so far, till now I found that wired network not working. There is no ethernet controller in the list of "sudo lspci", and there is no ethernet interface in the list of "ifconfig". I have tried nearly every suggestions I could find through Google, but none of them worked. Since there should be a built-in LAN controller on X399, I don't even need to plug any chip on it. Is it possible that the motherboard is broken and may I return it for warranty or fix it?

Thank you so much! This problem really drives me crazy.

Let me put all the possible outputs of any useful commands below.

Hi,

It could possibly be a hardware problem.
Can you please make sure that your LAN Controller is enabled in the BIOS?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. It was meant to be posted with the command line outputs at the beginning, but I cannot upload the screenshot of my BIOS. I am pretty sure that Onboard LAN Controller is enabled. If it is a hardware issue, do you know where should I bring my machine to?

Hi,

To make sure that this problem is not caused by the LAN controller being incompatible with Linux, you could use Windows 10 to see if the Ethernet is working.

If it is a hardware issue, then this link should be helpful How to contact MSI

Thank you so much pal. I have boot the machine with WinPE but LAN still didn't work. I'll try install a full Windows and install the latest drivers. Thank you again!

Hi guys,

A few hopeless updates: Installed Win10 and downloaded LAN drivers MSI provided on X399 official website. However, the driver installation program failed because "No Intel(R) Adapters are present in this computer." Since it is an on-board LAN Adapter, I really can't do anything now. Trying to register the motherboard online for warranty, but MSI requires invoice to be uploaded. Trying to find my invoice now.

Hello,
1/ Have you already done a clear CMOS to force components discovery. If not:
- Power off PSU, unplug the power cord and wait that all mobo's leds light off.
- Keep the upper button on the back panel pressed during at least 20s
- Plug the power cord and power on.
- You would see a message. Choose to enter in bios setup and
set "SETTINGS \ Boot \ Boot mode select" at "UEFI" (change only that for the moment).
2/ Enter in bios setup and goto "SETTINGS \ Advanced \ Intel ( R ) I211 Gigabit". If you see a hardware (MAC) adress with all digits at "0" or "F", it has been erased and must be reloaded. Don't worry, tools are availables to do that yourself: Ask to Svet >>Here<<.
3/ If none resolved, perhaps some CPU's pins are bents. Unplug the CPU and loot at them with a magnifying glass.
Have a good day,
:hat tip:
