X570-A PRO CPU_PWR2
« on: 18-July-19, 03:36:40 »

My PSU (corsair tx850 850w) is a bit old and lacks of 4pin conector for the CPU_PWR2. But it is an awesome PSU in great conditions despite the years. It is CPU_PWR2 mandatory for a X507-A Pro with a Ryzen 3700x that could have PBO+autoOC activated? If it is mandatory. Could I use some 6-pin PCIe to 4pin CPU adapter without risk? Any other solution asides buying a new PSU?

Thanks.

https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/cpupcie-power-supply-why-so-many-connectors-on-motherbo

it really depends on your power quality, usually 8 pin on the motherboard is good enough to handle 300ish Watt as long as your power cable to endure the heat.

Yes,  you can[6pin pci-e to 8pin CPU cable converter] IF:
* if the cable is a quality one[avoid any cheap chinese or no name unknown to you cables],
* make sure its properly/correctly wired. (else you will blowup the hardware)

Or if you are good enough in those stuffs:
use personally made by yourself cables, with big gauge(1mm2) and soldered:
(for max contact surface, prevent heating at contact points, max durability and reliable)

[personally I'm using such but for opposite direction,
from CPU power cable to convert to PCI-E power cable]
