1080 Ti ARMOR 11G OC Problem
« on: 19-July-19, 09:41:32 »

Hi all,

My graphics card seems to be showing an issue when under load, i.e. in games.
There is a whining or high pitched electronic noise coming from the card after a game loads and about 10-20 minutes into the game either the game crashes to the desktop or the computer restarts. No Blue Screens normally.
The temperature has also been reaching high temperatures of approx. 80-85c  where as it was being steady at 70-80c.
Other than the factory default overclock, nothing has been changed on the card.
Monitored in MSI Afterburner, HWiNFO64 and GPU-Z software.

The card acts normally after the load subsides and is stable during normal Windows use.

I have a case with good airflow and a front panel fan blowing in the direction of the underside of the card where the blowers fans are.

I put in a brand new Seasonic 750 Prime Ultra power supply to test power and it's still the same. Configured case fans to high speed and 1080 Ti card fans to 100% but after 20 mins it went to 85c during a game. Stopped the game and it went back to idle temps.
Is there anything else I should try to test it?
Thanks

Noticed in another thread, you mentioned that applying new thermal paste was allowed in the UK?
My card is less than a year old so don't want to void the warranty of course.

Cheers

It always depends on the local office. It is best to ask them for confirmation: >>How to contact MSI.<<

Local office, uksupport@msi.com goes to a Poland office who say they are only for Notebooks and AIO's.
They also say that "You have contacted the Notebook & AIO repair centre. There is no direct warranty support from MSI for end users who have purchased our components. The retailer or reseller is obligated to provide support for any MSI components that they sold. Thank you."
Very strange and possibly untrue?

Anyway, got another reply from my Webticket with central support who say "85 degrees has exceeded the maximum temperature limit, if the video card is no longer in the warranty period, it is recommended to try to re-apply silicone, if still in the warranty period, you can contact the retailer to send the video card repair, thank you".

I tried card in my other PC and no problems or electrical whine but still up to 85c before I stopped any stress tests.
Cleared BIOS to default settings then reflashed with the latest version again, set default then adjusted to settings I need. So far, no crashes but still high temps. Got up to 86c last night.
Could be a motherboard issue?

Actually checked it and the first year warranty is with the retailer.
Have now got an RMA number from retailer so will send it back for repair/replacement.
I'll keep thread posted as to outcome.

Concerned it is motherboard too so will check with retailer support where I purchased it, different place from card.

Quick update.

Seller has sent card for replacement to MSI so will have to wait up to 28 days
Oh well it should get sorted.

Hopefully they can't replace it with an Armor and only have Gaming :cheesy:
