Hello,
I have a issue with my new MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WIFI:
M2_1 @ PCIe 3.0 x2 = 1700MB/s (specificiation in the manual is PCIe 3.0 x4 with Ryzen 2nd Gen!!!)
M2_2 @ PCIe 3.0 4x = 3400MB/s

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X
Mainboard: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WIFI @ Bios 7C37c12
NVMe: 2x Samsung 970 EVO 1TB

Help is highly appreciated!!!

You are correct that both M2 slots are x4. Have you try to switch the NVME drives?

Yes I tried to switch the 2 NVMe drives and it is the same result - M2_1 is running @ PCIe 3.0 x2
What I also tried is clearing the CMOS - same result.
And I also flashed the Bios back to the previous version xxx.11 and cleared the CMOS - same result.

Now I have a brandnew mainboard not meeting the specs.

You can contact MSI support. Maybe the board needs a bios upgrade. If they know of the problem and it's correctable, you can wait . If not then replace the board with a different brand.

Yes I already contacted the MSI support, no response until now. When I do not get a solution within one week, I have to change to another brand.
I feel really sad being a beta tester for a new product not working as specified!

Yes you must ASAP.
I have a questions though, if there were no tools to tell you, would you be able to tell the difference?

Do you feel one is slower than the other?
I myself was disappointed to find out my M.2 is only capable to deliver around 800MB/s, so I bought a M.2 to PCIe adapter card only to fid the only difference I see is in drive temperature, so I put it back in the M.2 slot.

Hi,

This is a known issue when using a Pinnacle CPU on the X570 motherboard.
Probably have to wait for a BIOS update.

s

Thank you very much Svet, this is exactly what I needed!!! :agrees:

Actual results after updating BIOS to V1.34:
M2_1 @ PCIe 3.0 x4 = Read: 3282MB/s, Write: 2471MB/s
M2_2 @ PCIe 3.0 4x = Read: 3542MB/s, Write: 2482MB/s

Do you know why the M2_1 is around 300MB/s slower than the M2_2?

which particular M.2 are you using? Did you install the Windows 10 in the M.2?
have you tried to run the Crystal Diskmark 3 times and see if the result is always the same?

M2_1 is directly managed by the CPU and M2_2 is through the X570 chipset:

That can explain.
To finish, some remark:
- Verify the firmware of your 970 EVO (use >>Samsung Magician<<), there is a recently published update.
- Do not omit to install >>Samsung NVMe Drivers<< and to activate Overprovisonning. That would improve SSD performance and health.
Have a good day,
:hat tip:

You can find new (beta?) BIOS for your board at http://msi-ftp.de:8080/main.html
Just hit "login" and search under /BIOS/X570
I believe 7B93_122.zip should be for x570 gaming Pro carbon wifi

So you are using Pinnacle 2700 CPU and Samsung Evo 250G?    what score result for Crystal Diskmark did you see when comparing M2_1 and M2_2???
Did you install windows in your M.2?   did you have other test peripherals use in your system?

Yes 2700 and Samsung evo 960

Results yielded 1800/1400 on crystal mark and samsung magician.

Yet to try m2_2, will try it later. Hopefully can get x4 speed.

One other hdd on sata. One gtx 1060 on first pcie slot.

use this one, I got it from Svet (Admin):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vWe4mD-_9gNVYxzZ6m2f_-r2b0Sj3M79/view?usp=sharing

Now both M2s are working with PCIe 3.0 x4! :pompom:

Result with 2 Samsung 970 EVO:
M2_1 read 3520 MB/s, write 2485 MB/s
M2_2 read 3150 MB/s, write 2406 MB/s

The M2_2 on the X570 chipset is slower than the M2_1 on the processor! I had a similar result with the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge mainboard as you can see above.
Why is there such a big difference? Whats "wrong" with the chipset?
