I damaged my MSI 2070 Armor by overclocking it
« on: 30-March-20, 03:27:50 »

So I thought this is supposed to be impossible, but I seemed to have permanently damage my 2070 by overclocking it.

I followed the OC guide by MSI, used OC scanner to overclock the core clock to +70 MHz, and manually tweaked the memory clock to +800 MHz. Then I ran OCCT GPU test, the GPU temp never exceeded 65 degrees C, but it was raining down errors. So I reduced the OC to +45 MHz (clock) and +500 MHz (memory). The errors stopped, but MHW iceborne showed a lot of artifacts (random flashing lights, and sometimes the entire screen turned yellow). So I undid the OC in Afterburner, and uninstalled it completely using Revo Uninstaller. However, after a reboot MHW Iceborne is still showing some artifacts.

TL;DR Attempted to OC using OC scanner, couldn't find a stable OC. Undid OC, but artifacts stayed.

Did I :censored: my GPU up? It was running completely fine before I tried to OC it.

Have you tested anything else than this "MHW Iceborne"? If not do so with games and benchmarks.

Can test the card in another PC too?
Maybe your PSU dies and not the card

I posted the problem to Reddit and someone replied that they encountered the same issue after updating to the latest Nvidia driver (the one for Alyx VR). Rolling back the driver to the previous version has stopped the problem. Thanks.

Can you tell the exact driver version that works correctly and the one that doesn't works?

It was ver 445.75, the one for Half Life: Alyx. I can confirm that the latest version works.
