Hi,

because of the problems I had with my Gigabyte mobo I bought a used A78M-E45 V2. But my Athlon X4 845 is not working with it. I thought that it is because of an old BIOS version (Carrizo is supported with version 5.2 upwards). So I borrowed a Kaveri APU and it booted without problems. I checked the BIOS version and saw that version 5.4 is flashed. Carrizo should be supported. Why isn't it working? I bought the MSI because my Gigabyte was in an UEFI bootloop for the second time and no fix worked. If I got a screen display with my old mobo (UEFI Logo) the CPU can not be defective. What do you think?

Additional info:
After I got the board I did the usual thing. Clear CMOS, remove battery, unplug,... nothing worked.
After booting with success (Kaveri) the setup remained the same for booting again with Carrizo. But it did not work. The screen stayed black. Only the cooler fan was spinning. Only one RAM was applied in slot 2.

Any suggestions?

Best regards
Bene

The cpu is supported, that is indeed not the problem. As you had issues with the Gigabyte board before and a different cpu works I'm not convinced that the Carrizo cpu is not defective.

@flobelix
THX for your answer.
If it is really defective this would be my first defective AMD CPU since Socket A days (back then it was normal for CPUs to die if changed often - no heatspreader -> naked die -> cracked die corners ;-).

to me it sounds like the CPU (Athlon X4 845) is dead as that should be fully supported on the board so to me as you have used another CPU on it and it worked i would say your Athlon has given up and is broken.

It seems so but...

...it worked for over 2 or 3 years 24/7 in the Gigabyte board. There one UEFI bootloop occured and it was possible to fix it. 2 months ago the second bootloop occured and no fix worked. But I got a display image. Is it possible to get a display image (boot logo) if the CPU is dead?

Yes, of course that can happen. At least any data traffic from the vga as well goes through the cpu

I think you can close that thread. I bought a used A8-7600 CPU and everything works. Maybe the Carrizo really died. Thx for your help.
