K8T Master-FAR 2 HD LED Problem
« on: 09-December-03, 13:28:58 »

Has anyone heard of any problems with the HD LED conector on the MB.  I have SATA RAID setup and when I connect the lead for the case LED for HD activity it stays lit constantly, no reflection of activity.  If I reverse it it never comes on.
Is there a posibility that there is a mis-marked connector on the MB??

It doesn't work on the K8T Neo either.

If i plug it in one way nothing happens, and if i plug it in the other way the Power LED goes out and the HDD LED is never on either.

Perhaps a new BIOS can fix this issue for us?

(one serial ata seagate 120GB hard drive, one LG DVD writer on secondary master)

Well, that makes me feel a little better.  At least I know it's not just my board.

  • Hi,

I have that too....reported it to MSI.
BIOS 1.10 doesn't solve the problem either.
    I use only PATA 8-))

  • I don't know what it fixes.
But it's mainly for the FX to work correctly.

    My IDE-Led is still on.
And Core-Center-Pro still doesn't show the FSB and multiplier 8-))

Anyway the BIOS can be gotten here:

    It's a slow server, just ADSL :lol_anim:

  • You can add me to the list.  My K8T Master-FAR 2 system I put together yesterday does the same thing.  I have two SATA drives setup using RAID1 and the HD LED never turns off.  Hope this is fixed soon!

  • I remember seeing this in a similar thread a while back & bookmarked it as I thought it may come in handy:

I haven't used it but I read good things about it.

  • A couple questions:

    1. Has anyone tried connecting their HD LED connector to J7 instead of JFP1, and did it work?  I will try this eventually, but I need to create an extension in order for my HD LED wires to reach it.

    2. Do all MASTER2 boards have this HD LED problem when using SATA drives?

I can't stand not having a working HD LED.  I'll be return this board soon and cancelling the rest if I can't get the HD LED to work soon. :(

I'm at work so I can't check, but is J7 the SCSI LED pinout?
If so, YES I did try that, and it did not fix anything.

  • Yes, J7 is the SCSI LED connector. Pins 1 and 2 are SCSI LED and pins 3 and 4 are labeled HDD LED.  I was hoping pins 3 and 4 would work.

  • I just finished trying J7 and all possible pin combinations.  Didn't work for me either.

  • So far it appears  to be a good board.  This is my first MSI board (usually I buy ASUS), and I have to question their Quality Assurance and testing when something so obvious does not work.  Plus, when I send an email to tech support asking if this is a hardware or firmware issue and get no reply, it makes me think I should have bought the VIA board from ASUS.

  • You are going to return a board just over this???? :lol_anim:

I hate it too, but it's not that important....
The board is stable as a rock and has nice other features like the CPU-fan-spindown...
I find that way more important then a stupid led :lol_anim:

    Hello Bas,

No I wouldn't return a board just because an LED doesn't work, but as I mentioned before, it makes me wonder how good the rest of the board is when something as simple as the HD LED failure should have been caught during testing.

We do a lot of development here, and you'll be surprised how useful it is to have a working HD LED.  I know it sounds stupid, I just hope I didn't chose a 64 bit board that is not quite ready yet.  So far the board has been great.  I'm just going to hold off buying more for a while until I see how MSI tech support is compared to what I'm use to from other manufacturers.  So far tech support has been silent.

By the way, great job with all the support you provide here in the forums!

  • Thanks dude! I try to help as best as I can :lol_anim:

As for the stability, it runs just perfect here....
I have it over 1 month now, never crashed, not a single time....

I hope they fix the led somewhere in a newer BIOS.
