Geforce4-Ti bios screwed up
« on: 24-September-02, 02:21:14 »

Dear all, please help, I've flashed my Ti4400 VTD useing Live Update and when the machine rebooted the screen was covered in artifacts (i.e. lot's of coloured dots that shouldn't be there). When I do anything the display just gets worse. I've reinstalled the drivers but still no joy.

What I want is the origional rom image, so I can try and revert back.

If anyone has any Idea of what I've done wrong, or overlooked I'd really appreciate the info.

Cheers,

Dod.

the only online bios for your card is Version 4.25.00.19.14
Is this the version you flashed from or to?

The easiest way is to get orig bios is to use the jumpers on the card to start in SAFE BIOS mode.  Then after restarting computer you can then change jumpers back to original settings.

Hope this helps...

The version number on the Live update site was v101.

The bios that i had was somthing like 4.??.??.22.44.

I'll try the safe made option, I had heard of it but didn't know how to use it.  Does it load the default bios into the eeprom?.

I'll let you know the outcome.

Thanks for the info, mutch appreciated ;)

I've had a good look at my manual for the card, and the Geforce4 Ti 4x00's don't have Twin Bios chips and therefore don't have jumpers on the board either. :0

Can I flash it with an Image from someone else.  As I've tried Live update twice and it's still the same, really bad!.

Could you post a link to the Bios that you say is on line, or is that the version Live Update is giving me ( I'm not sure which version I actually got, but v101 dosn't sound right).

I got to the Bios update through this site, as I was having trouble capturing Video, and kept getting white bands in the middle of the captured file. I used the link, and got to an Install From The Web page at //tw.msi.com.tw and flashed the bios. When I restarted the display was virtually unreadable. Then I managed to get Live update to run and flashed it again. But it is still the same.

I think its doomed,

please HELP!

Yes my card is a MS-8871 VTD, and that link for the Bios is the one that you origionaly posted elswhere, which I used and screwed my bios in the first place. :O

Now my PC is barely usable, and I'm now using my laptop to do these posts.

What think I need is a different version, preferably a copy of a working cards bios. Or a way to revert back to my old bios, does this get backed up when you flash the card. And will it still be there after flashing it twice, or would it have been over-written.

And why o' why does the top of the range cards (Ti4x00) not have Twin bios on-board.

Thanks anyway crAzy_caMel.

Someone please help.

Nice one Dennis!, that would be great, that's the version I had. Mail it to me. :]

What program should I use to flash it?, and how are you copying yours?.

Thanks a million in advance mate, you've just made my day.

MSI seem to be going backwards on there BIOS.  For my 8850 they have taken away the orig bios, and the new one is older than the one I have now ?(
I did run into something similar to you when I flashed to the new Bios, but safe mode did help.
All cards should have safe mode as it is a time saving option.

you should have the flash utilities in the MSI folders and
Denis B will get you going again :D

Thanks for your help crAzy_caMel.

I was unsure about the version of the bios when I flashed it, but went ahead due to what you wrote I another thread. You win some, you lose some!.

Hopefully Denis's bios will get me back in action, as I'm missing Insane + UT. :(

Job done  :D

Thanks a million Denis.

The card thought it was a 8720 so I've flashed it with the wrong ROM somehow.  ?(

I just had to force nVflash to do it, because there was a PCI Subsystem ID error.

I'm off to play UT  :D
