No Post - 8 Beeps
« on: 12-October-04, 06:12:22 »

I'm running a brand new K8MM-ILSR with an Athlon 64 2800+ and one stick of 512MB Mushkin 3200 RAM.

The board will not post, or display anything at all. The monitor gets no signal from either an AGP video card, or if I remove that from the onboard video. All I get are 8 short beeps. I have looked this up and I realize that it means "Display Read/Write Error", however I fail to see how this can be the case with onboard video and my AGP video card (which works fine in another system).

I have absolutely no clue where to go from here.

8 Short Beeps::

Your video card isn't working. Make sure it is seated well in the bus. If it still beeps, either the whole card is bad or the memory on it is. Best bet is to install another video card.

However, I see that you've already tried it.... And using the onboard video gave you beeps, that lead me to think that it can also cause by bad ram... (since I believe onboard video will be using your system memory...) So.. have you got other memory sticks to put to test??

PS. Did using the AGP card give you beeps also? or only the onboard video??

  • Any chance you failed to pull the power plug (removed Standby power) while you removed the add-in video card?

    Most likely a Ram problem, try another mem stick, just use 1 stick just now,

    If you have other sticks try them.

    cheers jocko
