[Athlon64] Memory runs at 333 instead of 400
« on: 26-June-05, 10:07:51 »

I've had this board (K8MM-ILSR) for a while and it just occurred to me today that my memory is running at 166 mhz(333) instead of the 200mhz(400) it is supposed to run at. How do I change it so my memory runs at the right speed (My RAM is PC3200)? I asked this question on another forum, but they told me to go into a "cell" menu in the bios and change the memroy speed to 1:1, however nothing in my bios refers to a cell or 1:1. What should I do?. I have 2 sticks of 512mb.

It's a memory/CPU problem.
Make sure they are seated in the 2 slots most close to the CPU.
If you use the most far slots, the CPU will downgrade the speed.
It also depends on the brand and type memory you use.
Try with one stick and see what happens.
Also, on some boards you need to set the mem-max-lock to the max speed in the list, as it could happen that your memory has DDR333 AND DDR400 SPD programming and it could happen that AUTO is taking the wrong settings.
Also it couls happen that your memory can't run higher with the AMD64.
Many options could be the cause, to find all info, look at the memory sticky on top.

Bios releases after 3.0 automatically downspeed the memory to 166MHz.  It's a known problem and discussed on other threads in the Forum.

It's also the reason I've stuck with Bios 3.0 (see my specs).  The only problem with Bios 3.0 is lack of memory adjustments appearing in Bios setup, so Bios 3.0 will only work for you if your memory can operate stable at SPD defaults on the board.
