MSI K8N Neo2-FX - WinXP-sp2 USB problem
« on: 08-November-05, 04:03:46 »

HI!

Two weeks ago I Bought this mainboard, and I can't install the Usb2 driver.

I have Windows XP with service pack 2, and it doesn't recognize the Usb ports as Usb2.

On the driver disc which were provided with the mainboard there were a driver, but only for the English version of WinXP-sp1.

My question is: Where can I get the drivers I need, or what did I wrong?

I downloaded all the stuff from this homepage, but these doesn't contain the %!!/@^ Usb drivers  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :angryfire:  :angryfire:  :angryfire:  :angryfire:

Pleeeeeeeese help!

  • Win XP includes all drivers for USB / USB2 - the drivers on the CD are for Win 98.

You need to go into the BIOS on startup, then access Integrated Peripherals , then Onboard Devices and set:
    OnChip USB
This setting allows you to enable/disable the onboard USB controller. Selecting
[V1.1+V2.0] enables the system to support both USB 1.1 and 2.0 spec. Setting
    options: [Disabled], [V1.1], [V1.1+V2.0].

Then reboot and WinXP should detect and add the Enhanced USB controller under USB Devices.

Well, the problem is still on.

    1) I read carefully the Instruction manual, and it says that there is no mistake, I REALLY have usb 2.0 ports. (8 pieces to be precise)
    2) In the BIOS I didn't find that option you mentioned.
There are three options related to the Usb:
      a) Onchip Usb (enabled/disabled)
      b) USB kb/storeage support (enabled/disabled)
      c) USB Mouse support (enabled/disabled)

I tried all the possible combination, but when i connect my pendrive to the computer it says (I don't know what the english Windows say, but I try to translate): This device is capable work faster, if you attach it to an USB2.0 port. (instead of saying "High speed USB Device is connected to a slower port", which appaers when using USB1.1 ports on an other comp.)

    What can you suggest????
(I have sp2 with latest drivers possible)

  • What is the version of your BIOS - I think that 1.9 had a problem with missing USB2 ??  If you have that then flash to newer 1.B or back to 1.8.

Seems I was right - READ this before you do anything else - https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=86257.0

I Have already consulted some of my "expert" friends and they figured out that I need a BIOS update.

So you just convinced me to follow their suggestions.

I downloaded that bios update from msi homepage, refering to my motherboard's type. I think If I follow the instruction they provided, there shouldn't be any problems.

So i'll run home right away, and hoping not ruining my mobo ;-)) tomorrow you'll be the first who wiill know the results

    Thanks again.

    It's Working!!

no problem at all. the 1.b bios solved the problem. I still don't have that [diisable][1.1][1.1/2.0] option, but it works. :-)
