Where are the K8N Diamond Plus Boards
« on: 06-June-06, 09:42:49 »

I ordered my board from Tiger Last week.  Was told they on back orderd...
Went to newegg.com  .... out of stock.

Checked about 3 other places I go and they are out of stock.  I want a retail box for the MSI Warrantee and all the extras they give you with the board.

Is there a problem with production??

WOW  21 views and nobody knows?

I have called ALL the places MSI says has it.  Only 1 has it in stock.  He has 5 boards and wants $80 MORE then anybody else.

I need a board this week.  I guess I should look for another board.  What is is a good 939 board?

I've been looking too. Almost ready to go with an Asus if something doesn't pop up this week. Only place I can find them right now is eBay which is a little more expensive and riskier.

I have been searching all over the web and have seen forums that say it is discontinued already.

I would wait until next week IF I know there would be some boards some place.  One guy told me that boards are like stock, one wiff of the word "discontinued" and distributers stop ordering themin a hart beat.

I dont want ASUS.  This board has the extra sata ports and the Sound Blaster chip.  I also love hearinghow "stable it is".  I wish sombody that knows sombody would would get us some information.  I have already wrote the edidtors at MaximumPC.

huh..are you really sure that diamond plus is discontinued? or you've heard wrongly that maybe it's diamond? i'm getting my diamond plus sooner as i wan to replaced with my gigabyte mobo (sucks) for my 2nd rig. As i can see from the MSI website that both diamond plus and diamond are still available in their website. So as well there is still a production for both mobo. Gd luck.

No,... this is just information I have read in other places.  Kind of like he said she said.  I have doubts about it, but it is hard to miss the fact that there arn't any board to be had unless you are willing to trust EBAY.

newegg.com  OUT
tigerdirect.com OUT
A2Z  OUT
and all the provides MSI lists on their site as a place to go to buy the board OUT.

If the board is not being discontinued (I hope it isn't I want it) then MSI has production/distrubtion issues with it.  That is my only guess.

 :angryfire:

Another week gone.  AND NOBODY has any of these K8N Diamond boards yet.
I called CDW and they are on back order to.

No reply from MSI emails.
No reply from MSI Phone call  (left messages, many).

I just want to know if they are THAT HOT and selling that fast or if there is something else.  Perhaps production issues, or... perhaps they truly are discontinued.

I think possibly shops were wating to see how the new chips took off before ordering stock. Quite a few of the online shops that I use here in the UK have run their 939 stocks right down in favour of the new socket, which is a great shame.
Of course it is also possible that MSI slowed 939 production down to enable them to have plenty of the new versions available on AMD's launch date.

What problems?

MSI warrants boards for 2-3 years anyway.

For me it only tells me the box has been opened.
So what? The price is pretty fair to me.
Also, it's the same as retail.
Do not forget, most problems are user errors, not board problems at all.

I talked to the Newegg.com live rep.  They say they are OEM.  SO I would not get any of the brackets cables... or the face plate.  =(  that is the turn off I guess.

I would not mind if MSI covered it, but I need the plate to go in the square whole in the back of the pc at best.

ALSO  I didn't think you got a FULL MSI warrantee with an OEM board?

Those are not OEM....no way....as MSI doesn't make Diamond Plus OEM boards.....

However, MSI does warrant those boards in full if you can show a proof-of-purchase.
These are NOT OEM.

Anyway, if you don't need the cables and stuff, it's a good deal.

OEM boards have different numbers and BIOS, they are not the same.

If what you said is true, and if I could "buy" the plate for the back of the computer I would do it.
Here is my last chat with Newegg.com

Chat InformationPlease wait while we connect you to a Newegg representative. You are number 2 in the queue.
Chat InformationThank you for contacting Newegg. My name is Allen. How may I assist you today?
Tim: Item #: N82E16813130037R says OEM but MSI does NOT make this board in an OEM version. Is it just safe to assume they are open boxes or retruns?
Allen: this is an open box item/refurbished
Tim: ok, is it possable then that it would come with all the cables and stuff?
Allen: no Sir, just by itself
Allen: has only 15 days for a refund
Allen: no guaranty from manufacturer
Tim: would it be coverd by the MSI 3 year warantee
Allen: I am afraid no
Tim: errr. and if you send it back for a refund is there a "restocking fee?"
Allen: contact us with a reason and we will waive that fee for you
Tim: thanks for your time Allen
Allen: Welcome

Hi dude,

I'm going to ask MSI Taiwan about this.....
I get back on this matter.
As I do not believe warranty is gone that easy, just because the board was tested.

SWEET!  the thing that got me is the new word they tossed this time  "refurbished"  so  not sure.

Can you ask how I can get the "Accessories Kit" also?  Can I order it some place?

You could ask MSI to ship you such....when you pay the shipping etc costs....
I didn't ask that, but I'm sure, knowing MSI, such can be arranged one way or the other.

Took my chances on eBay  :bonk: $189 shipped. 99.6%pos feedback. 14 day RMA, after that call MSI. See tons of great reviews but tons of questions on the forums as well. I REALLY hope this will be painless.

I just checked and newegg.com has pulled it from their site. No one seems to have them in stock.

What's the scoop...MSI?

Okay, if not this board...what should be 2nd choice? Asus, DFI?

eBay purchase was from an individual in CA. I happened to see his buy it now auction same day he posted. Should be here 6/16. Just praying I don't get ripped off. Really concerned about this whole lack of stock and Newegg pulling it out of their store. You guys might actually be getting a break if it was discontinued for some reason. I was aiming for an ASUS A8N32-SLi Deluxe or the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium if I couldn't find a Diamond.

Well,  the K8N Diamond, according to Tomshardware.com and MaximumPC is best choice.  The reviews said the scoring was neck and neck so it came down to features.

While this is an MSI forum,  and they will probably delete this... but the ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe is probably your next best choice.   You will loose 2 SATA ports and the Sound Blaster audio chip.  AND you loose the cool driver finder feature  that most on these boards say stay away from =).... not to mention that you will have turned to the Dark Side  (play Star Wars Imperial March here).

It sadens me to say this but,... I have been trying to buy for over 2 weeks now.  You may now call me Darth Vader.

P.S.

Many sites have yanked it from their stores.

newegg.com
tigerdirect.com

the BUY IT button on MSI web site use to have a long list of stores that sold it.... now showing 2.  But both of those when emailed/called say it is out of stock.

Hi,

I got this back from my contact at MSI Europe....but he's not sure:

Quote
I guess those are repaired RMA motherboards.
If Newegg doesn't want to service them, they probably sell it with a large discount ($132 compared to ?175 lowest price in EU).
If MSI products fail, the buyer should go back to the reseller he/she bought the product from. So if Newegg doesn't service them, it's a big gamble to buy those boards.

To make it short, he thinks that you should not buy those.
You could ask MSI in the USA what they think of it.

Very strange NewEgg doesn't warrant them, as refurbished means checked and found to be ok.
Basicaly, they are new boards..

I'm still puzzeled about this.
As I bought refurbished/open-box videocards from Matrox in the past, and Matrox gave full warranty on them.
I mean, open-box is even more silly, as I would expect the box only to be opened and nothing more.

Very weird no matter how you look at it.

P.S.

Many sites have yanked it from their stores.

newegg.com
tigerdirect.com

the BUY IT button on MSI web site use to have a long list of stores that sold it.... now showing 2.  But both of those when emailed/called say it is out of stock.

It's a very popular board.... ;-))

Why was?

I like it a lot ;-))

Could be that some retailers are getting scared and only stock AM2 boards now.....
If they do, would be a sad move, as S939 is still faster then AM2.

Too bad the K8N Diamond Plus board is not available in the U.S. anymore.  I was just set to pull the trigger on one at Newegg before the price shot up and the then there were none to be had.  I have spent the better part of a year trying to get the planets to line up and get a DFI board (Lanparty Nf4 SLI-DR) to to cold boot and run stable  :wall:.  I just want something that will actually boot, run stable, and give me a decent overclock if I get a wild hair.  The K8N Diamond Plus seemed to fit the bill.

For those that say the K8N Diamond Plus has not been discontinued, point me to somewhere it can be purchased in the U.S. without paying $50 - $100 over list.

I have been down the road with orphan (read discontinued) boards before and it isn't fun.  Support and improved Bios just dry up.

I am going to stay away from the AM2 for a year or so.  Let others work out the bugs in a new architecture.

One could try here......

However, I can't say if they have it or now, but the buy-button works:

>>MicroCenter<<

Near the bottom of the list, I hope it works for you.

As for MSI not talking to me yet, that's because they are bussy with Computex :lol_anim:

Thanks BAS,
I took a look at MicroCemter.  They "may" have the board.  However, their site also says "Usually ships in 2-3 business days. Limited availability. May not be in stock at time of order. No back orders".  Sounds like they will not or can not order more.  Adds more fuel to the idea that the board is discontinued.  Did you ever hear anything from your sources in Taiwan?

Thanks,

There are no stores now listed with the board off the MSI site and I can't find it anywhere. Even the eBay seller I was talking to said the few he was supposed to get turned out to be open box stuff. Distribution doesn't have them either...something is wrong. Either MSI discontinued the board or there's a manufacturing problem.

Ahh well, no response from MSI..no one in the US seems to have them even listed. Had to buy an Asus. Wish MSI could have at least let people know what was going on.

EOL? I didn't think the board was that old. You can still purchase much older boards. Something just doesn't sound right. Isn't the AM2 socket different than the 939 in that you can't use a 939 CPU in a AM2 motherboard? Yet on the MSI website for the KN8 Diamond it list support for these processors:
•    Supports 64-bit AMD® Athlon™ 64 / Athlon 64FX / Athlon 64 X2 processor (Socket AM2)
•    Supports Athlon 64 CPU: 3500+, 3800+
•    Supports Athlon 64FX CPU: FX-62
•    Supports Athlon 64 X2 CPU: 3800+, 4000+, 4200, 4400+, 4600+, 4800+, 5000+, 5200+
What's the deal?

Just to add to my doubt of EOL for that board, MSI still has the Diamond Plus listed as NEW!!!!! How can something be EOL and New at the same time?

I found a few stores online through Froogle search that "claim" to have the board in stock. One such store found here:
http://www.cesell.com/product.php?productid=27539
Claims to have 50 of them for $201.
