While it may not be EOL yet, its sure to be heading that way soon.....
Some sites here in the UK are listing socket 939 cpu's as no longer being made,
Quote:-
"The Athlon 64 4000 San Diego offers stunning performance and OcUK has now axed the price making us the cheapest in the UK by miles. AMD no longer produces socket 939 processors so to avoid dissapointment buy now." Link:-

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_This_Week_Only_25.html#aCP_2d121_2dAM

I have only seen this with reference to single core cpu's so far, but with the release of AM2 and the impending price drop of all 939 cpu's due to the release of Intel's new core based chip, the writing must be on the wall for them as well.

At the moment overclockers.co.uk still have the Diamond Plus listed as in stock, and they do also ship worldwide. Link:-

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Socket_939_492.html

Whilst your there, notice that this is the only MSI 939 board listed in this section, they used to carry a very good selection. Now look at the AM2 section for MSI.
It seems sad as only now are we begining to see features that we wanted on these boards, but the limelight is slowly begining to fade on them in favour of AM2.
In my opinion support for 939 will continue for awhile longer, as there are a heck of a lot of 939 proccesors out there, either in the shops or in peoples homes.

Russell.

Thanks for the post, but by the time I checked those sites the boards were out of stock.
If anyone one finds an online store that has the board in stock, is located in the US, and has it at a decent price then please post it here.

There is one on eBay from a store but they want around $220 plus a bundle for shipping.

Why would they discontinue this board though? I mean honestly, I have been comparing this to what Asus has to offer (and still has in production) and I keep reading about how their comparable boards are known to run hot/overheat.

I feel lucky to have acquired my K8N Diamond Plus.

Around the beginning of the year, I decided to build a new rig based on the Athlon X2 4400+. The first brand of motherboard I selected was a DFI LanParty. It was unstable as heck. Intermittent IRQ conflicts. Couldn't load Vista. Temperature readings all over the board. Inscrutable BIOS. Couldn't power-on or wake from keyboard no matter what I tried. The support forum for that product was not helpful at all. They kept telling me to run memory tests, re-install Windows and to swap out other hardware. Everything but the board. Blah blah. I RMA'd the board and the new one acted the same way. The only nice thing I could say about that tempermental POS was the UV-reactive plastics looked cool.

So I dumped DFI and tried Abit. The Abit board was even worse about the interrupt business. It wouldn't boot at all if I had drivers loaded for my Hauppauge PVR-500. Plus its layout was super-cramped. While running windows I would get the dreaded blue-screen "IRQ NOT LESS THAN OR EQUAL" or some business like that. Had cute red LEDs along the bottom of the board, though. Back to the store went the Abit board.

Finally the MS 7220 (K8N Diamond Plus) came out and ... it has worked beautifully! No IRQ conflicts. Really nice layout. Very quiet. Nicely organized BIOS. Fantastic on-board audio. Rock-solid (I have yet to lock up in Windows!) It could not have been a better setup experience!

I guess I will have to really pamper my board... should there be a power surge, I really don't know what I would replace it with! (A horrific support experience with ASUS in 2001 made me swear-off that brand for life! In the words of Stephen Colbert, "ASUS, you're dead to me!" LOL)

Considering that I was first able to get the board only in March... and not it's just a little over three months later... I would say this board has suffered a tragic, early demise!!! I hope that this is just a temporary issue; perhaps they are coming out with a rev 2? Maybe the new AM2 is the cat's meow, but for socket 939, the MSI K8N Diamond Plus is really the most stable, best performing board out there!

I'm looking for one, I live in the UK, checked all the good places.

Ebuyer.co.uk
Scan.co.uk
Overclock.co.uk

The only place that has them is Overclockers.co.uk, which is charging more for them than it should be, probably because they are so popular and stable.

It's going to force me to change my plans, by the time I come to upgrade in September, the K8N Diamond Plus motherboard will be gone forever.  :angryfire:
