Please pay careful attention to providing as much information about your PSU as possible. This includes Make / Model  amp rating of the 12 v rail(s).
IE: Corsair AX750 (65amp 12 rail)

When you are ready to post, make sure to provide clear and consice information as to the problems and steps you have already taken to remedy the problem.
IE:
Just built this machine, it has never posted and i am getting a FF code on motherboard.

To save some time i will list steps i have tried:

1. Tested power supply with a Thermaltake power supply tester, all voltages are within range, including the CPU power connector, which i did double check to be plugged in.

2. Tried the video card in another PC, working fine, also tried it in each pci express slot (four of them) on the 990fxa-gd80 board.

3. Tried resetting the bios and have also tried booting with just one memory stick in Dimm slot 1

4. Tried powering up the board out of the case with just the power supply, video and memory connected.

5. Decided that i had a bad board, rma'd it and received replacement.  same problem again.

6. Tried booting with different keyboards and with no keyboard.

7. Discovered that one of the system fan power plugs doesn't work, think it was #4, not sure what this means.

8. Tried a different brand and speed of memory, also put 2 sets of kingston hyperx ddr3 1600, to use both memory channels.

9. Have uninstalled, inspected, cleaned and reinstalled the CPU and CPU cooler which is the stock AMD cooler that came with the CPU.

Thinking that maybe a bios update would solve all my problems, but can't boot into bios to update it, get the ff code immediately on power up.

I'm open to any and all suggestions and i am out of ideas.

Additional info.  The north bridge leds are lit up to phase 2, the CPU phase lights are lit all the way to 8, the ddr phase led is lit on phase 1.

All the Moderators started out just like you coming here looking for help or to gain some knowledge about a particular product. In simpler terms, this is a user to user help forum period. We ask that you try clicking through the "Service" link found at the top of this page before posting your question.

Also try taking advantage of the Search option available at the top of every page within the whole forum community.
Perhaps it already has been answered.

Please Read through all the "Important" and "Announcement" threads at the top of each forum you visit (These are known as "Stickies") these threads hold a lot of good information pertaining to each forum.

This will help us all stay focused on the current topics at hand and avoid having to answer the same question over and over again.

We request when posting a new topic/thread, you provide us with as much information as you can about the particular product and problem encountered. Please provide a brief, but complete history of what was done prior to the problem. It will give everyone a better chance at troubleshooting and minimize the chance of having to ask many questions to get to the root of your Problem.

If it's a general question that doesn't apply to a specific product, then it is not necessary to include make and model info. Just be advised that the less information you give, the more guesses you will get and your post is likely to be ignored by a majority. So do yourself and everyone else a favor and be detailed.

Suggestions for the subject line: (EXAMPLE)

1. Enter the model, then the MSI  Part number (If available) This also helps differentiate at a glance and helps in searches as well.
Keep in mind that MSI no longer lists products by Part Number, only by marketing name. Anytime you post a part number only and no one recognizes it, it's likely to be ignored. So please try to find the marketing name for your product. We are not privy to internal part numbers any longer.


2. Then, after the product description, add the problem or question.
Example: "K7N2G-ILSR MS-6570 Problem with graphics skipping"

Stay away from weak or lame posts like: "HELP, My computer is broke!"
Better yet, just keep the word "help" out of the subject entirely, we know why you're here. Exclaiming help is like pressing the elevator button repeatedly in hopes that the elevator will hurry up.

Please take advantage of the Signature option in your member profile and enter your Hardware, OS and any other info that will benefit users in troubleshooting your problem. Please, Don't leave out Power Supply information! This is the most commonly overlooked component in your system. Please look at the sticker found on the side of the PSU and include the corresponding amperages on the +12v, +5v, & +3.3v lines! If you run into a problem and we think it might be related to a power issue, you will be asked for this information. Save us the hassle of having to ask for it, please!

You can take my Signature for example or anyone else's. Just remember that you can change it at anytime and add/remove any information as needed.

Click on the button at the top, select "Forum Profile Information" from the menu on the left under "Modify Profile", then scroll down to the Signature box, and type in your signature there.

What we want to see

A simple list of all the important hardware in your PC:

  • CPU brand, model and speed
  • Motherboard model (full marketing name, not just MS-xxxx)
  • Memory brand, type/speed, size, number of sticks
  • Video card brand, chipset type, memory size
  • Hard drive(s) brand, size, type, speed
  • Any other peripheral cards and devices
  • Operating system and version (including if 32 or 64bit!)
  • Power Supply Unit brand and output in watts and DC output (amps) 

    Just a clear detailed list of what hardware you have. Please don't just copy and paste the above, substituting your parts for the examples shown.

Much of that which is contained in those log files is mostly irrelevant, so please refrain from doing so!


That's the basics. but consider if you're posting about a problem with a keyboard (for example) you have, then might it be helpful to actually tell us more about that particular hardware you have?

If you don't provide these basic details, as well as all relevant background information related to your problem, then it is very difficult for moderators and other users to be able to advise you better.

Now, before going back and editing your post (you weren't thinking about starting a new one now, were you? Wink ), make sure you have read through all the sticky topics at the top of the board you have posted in. Sticky topics are there for a reason, they contain useful information which answers questions that have been answered many times before. And also be sure to have ensured that you've used our comprehensive search facility, to make sure that another user hasn't experienced and solved a similar problem to yours already, because it sure gets dull when people find themselves answering the same questions over and over and over again... And of course we now have this new FAQ page, where you can find many answers to commonly encountered problems.

You can create a 'signature' that will appear after every post you make.

This has a variety of uses, the most popular being to list hardware found in your computer, especially if you are trying to fix a problem with your PC. However you are free to put what you like there, you can use 'BBCode' to add links and images, however if you wish to post an image in your signature, please keep it to a max size of 400x200. 

To create your signature, click on the  item in the menu bar at the top left, just under the News bar, then in the left hand menu, under 'Modify Profile' select 'Forum Profile Information'. 



Scroll down the page until you see the Signature box, type in your signature text here, and then click the 'Change Profile' button to finish. There is a character limit of 800 characters for your signature text

Click on the Profile button, then click on Forum Profile Information. If you are hosting your image in your own webspace, or using a free web service, then type in the URL of your image into the "I have my own pic:" box and click on the 'Change Profile' button at the bottom to confirm.

If you don't have anywhere to host your image, then the forum software allows you to upload your image here. Select 'I will upload my own image', then click Browse to find your file on your PC. Again, click on 'Change Profile' button to confirm.

Note: if after uploading a new avatar image you still see the old one, press Ctrl+F5 to refresh your browser.

You can also put images in your posts, again provided they do not break any rules. However, the image must be located somewhere on the web, you cannot post images from your own computer.

If you do not have any of your own webspace provided by your ISP to use, then there are many websites available, that will allow you to upload images and host them. Try Image Shack, PhotoBucket, or Tinypic. Once your image has been uploaded, make a note of its URL.

You can also post images from anywhere on the internet, though some websites don't like other websites "leeching" their images. Find images on the web using Google Image Search. You just need an image's URL in order to post it.

To post your image, you use the BBCode tags. For example, entering the following:

The forum software will automatically resize large images so they fit on the page.

Please try to avoid posting very large images, as it will slow down page creation for users with slow download speed (there are still 56k users out there! Wink)

You can combine the IMG and URL tages as described above to make an image into a link, or a 'clickable image'.

Please be polite and respectful to others when posting. No-one is paid to work here, everyone gives up their own time to help each other.

Before posting for the first time, please be sure to create a signature listing your hardware in detail, which will appear after every post you make. If you're not sure what info to provide, please read the Posting Guide. It goes without saying that the more information you provide about the hardware you have and the problem you are having, the better the responses will be.

If you use a graphic image in your signature, please use only one image, with a maximum size of 400 x 200 pixels.

If you need help with a problem, please start your own new topic. Don't 'hijack' someone else's topic, even if it seems they have a similar problem to yours. And don't post the same problem in different areas of the forum. If you feel you have posted in the wrong area by mistake, notify a moderator by clicking on 'Report', and they will move it to the correct area for you.

Also, please do not try to contact moderators or any MSI Support staff members, via PM or email, directly for help with problems.

Use a sensible subject line to describe your problem. Topic titles such as 'Hurry need help!' or 'I'm so p***ed off!' will not attract much interest, as it gives the impression you are impatient or unwilling to listen to suggestions.
