Ok, so as subject says:

MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) and when I install a GTX1060 Gaming X 6G the PC hangs at B2 then nothing more.

I'm seeing many issues around these GTX1060s and motherboards needing a BIOS update for the 1060 to work.  So looking at the support pages for the motherboard, the instructions don't match the files made available to the public.  Instructions show raw BIOS files, however the files available are BIOS.exe files.

Any clear instructions available for updating the BIOS with the files MSI makes available?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as it sits now I have alot of expensive equipment that is unusable =(

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Windows 10 x64
16GB Ram

Hello,
Install bios version V25.80 (=P.80):
- Take an USB drive having no more than 16GB (physical size). Be cautious that it will be erased so saved its content if you want to keep it.
- Insert it in one USB2.0 ports (use one of those near the serial port).
- Download Rufus Tool to create a FAT32 USB drive: >>Rufus Tool 3.1<<. When running it, select "Free DOS" as "Boot selection field" and keep default values for all other values).
- Download >>Bios Updater to VP.80<<. Unzip it and copy "E7681vP8.exe" at the root of your USB drive.
- Restart keeping <DEL> pressed during start to enter in Bios Setup. Press <F6> (load optimized defaults), confirm, then press <F10> (save changes) and confirm. Pc should reboot.
- Press <F11> when MSI Splash Screen displays then select your USB drive.
- In the DOS screen, type: E7681vP8.exe. Bios update should start. Wait the end. Be aware of the MSI comment: "System will restart several times to update ME firmware after updated system BIOS; please DO NOT remove the USB pen drive until ME updated successfully" (see >>Z68A-GD65 (G3) - Retailed Bios<<).
Good luck,

Do NOT do that unless you like risking a brick.

Follow the instructions as follows exactly using the prepared bios archive linked there. Do NOT use the archive downloaded from product site.

The latest ever bios for your board is 25.9 beta 3 (.P93) anyway. It should be the one to use.

A.) Download >>this bios archive<< (!) archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the >>the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB and follow the directions. MEMTEST is included with the forum flash tool and it is recommended to run this prior to any flash.

Because the update process for the Intel ME tends to fail with the default method on 6 series boards. In many cases either the whole update is interrupted causing a brick or at least making recovery needed or ME update needs to be continued manually after the flash (before no boot is possible) which is quite a task for a normal user who will not have the required file at hand.

This worked perfectly!  Thanks so much.  Might I ask where are these proper BIOS files kept?  I have another board a P67A-G43 (B3) that I'd like to flash as well.  Would this board follow the same process with it's unique bios archive?  Where can I get the bios for that board?

Thank you again, great to have this kind of expertise available to the community!

:pompom:

These files are prepared when needed. Open an own thread for the other board. For people who might also check this you should mark the reply with the instructions best answer and not any other post.

Yes I marked the wrong post by accident.  It looked to me like the option to vote for best answer was after the post but turns out it's before.  How can this be undone? T
